If you’re someone who has allergy or asthma problems, you are certainly not alone. In fact, according to many published reports, one in five people in America battle with the allergy symptoms and one in 12 people suffer from asthma.

Clean regularly. It’s very easy for dust, debris and dander to pile up. That’s why it’s a good idea to put yourself on a cleaning schedule. It should include cleaning your floors, wiping down your countertops and removing any clutter throughout the house. Remember, clutter is one of the places that dust and even mold and mildew like to cling to.

Harsh chemicals. Speaking of cleaning, although there are plenty commercial brands that you can purchase at your local grocery store or Walmart, a lot of them contain harsh chemicals which ultimately means loads of toxins. Toxins are something else that can irritate your symptoms. So, why not try some homemade cleaning recipes instead? Lemon juice, vinegar and baking soda are just some of the things that you probably already have in your house that will have your house sparkling without all of the side effects. Watch your floors. Since our shoes tend to track in a lot of things from the outside, it’s a good idea to have a “no shoes inside of the house” rule. There are other things that you can do to reduce debris from building up on your floors as well. If you have hardwood floors, sweep and mop them once a week. If you have carpeted flooring, make sure that your vacuum cleaner has a HEPA filter, vacuum twice a week and when it’s time to clean your carpets, opt for steam cleaning rather than shampooing. Keep pets out of your bedroom. If you do happen to have pets inside of your home, be sure to keep them out of your bedroom. Dander is a magnet to bedding and a surefire way to make your symptoms more of an issue. Also, being that pets tend to shed, if you have a dog, it’s important that you get their fur trimmed every few weeks. That will reduce the amount of hair on your furniture and flooring.

Increase air circulation. There is one more simple thing that you can do that will help when it comes to reducing allergens in your home: you can open up your windows. Being that indoor air pollution tends to be 2-5 times worse than what is outside, by opening up your windows, you increase your air circulation inside. The only time when you shouldn’t rely on this tip is if you suffer from outdoor allergens. If that’s the case, turn on your ceiling fans. It’s another way to keep the air in your house fresher so that you can feel more comfortable.
